RG3 out, Kirk Cousins getting decent stats that may or may not be inflated by a bad Jags team. And the QB controversy rolls on...

The Lions look like genuine NFL football team today.

They looked good last week but that may have something to do with playing the giants.

I think we could field a team of Oppos that would look like a genuine NFL football team against the Giants.

The best thing they can do is give up on RGIII and stick with this dude.

RGIII will never play a full season.

but how come they can't score?

I'm not a Lions fan but kind of like them. Not understanding why they aren't smoking the Panthers right now

It's hard to say that when they gave away so much for the guy and they've seen flashes of greatness. Kirk Cousins is never going to be "the guy" just a competent starter, most teams want something more. RG3 needs some kind of change to teach him to slide, to escape pressure properly and develop proper footwork.

The Panthers have a stout D, you can't underestimate that.

I know how tough it would be because of how much they have up and because Cousins may never be elite. But that is also why I think they have to do it. They don't have the cap space to go get a veteran quarterback. And they can't invest a high draft pick on one either given what a crapshoot quarterbacks are in the draft if they are not the sure bet #1 picks that come around every 10-15 years.

I feel like their investment into RGIII was a risk that didn't pan out. They rolled the dice and it failed. Sometimes in life it's better to cut your losses then to stay in limbo because you're trying to get value out of your investment.

If he could stay healthy it would be another thing. But it seems like he simply can't. Some guys are just more fragile than others. He seems more thin and brittle than other quarterbacks. You see this in the NBA too, some guys just have weaker knees and ankles and can't stay healthy. It's really a shame because sometimes guys a lot of talent just can't have productive careers.

I know that they have a really good defense. I just thought the Lions could score more given how many weapons they have. I already switched another game but the last I checked it was the third quarter the Lions only had one touchdown.

I haven't watched any of the game but to be honest ebron didn't look as formidable as you'd expect against the giants and if you can shut down megatron they'll struggle.

Yeah I guess their other guys might look better than they are because of Megatron.

It will be interesting to see who wins the NFC North this year. None of the teams look like a lock right now. They all have some pretty big flaws. The Packers are probably the best but they definitely have issues.

Nice job Pats BTW. They are destroying the Vikings.

You do have a point and I think they can win with Cousins if he gets the help he needs. The only sure bet QB there's been in years was Andrew Luck so trying the draft again may go poorly.

He's definitely brittle and I think primarily the issue is he cant slide, he always lands strangely, he cuts strangely. He just has a lot of mechanics issues that really bring his fragility to the forefront. The injury today for example was from a really unusual jump and landing.

Yeah QBs are such a crap shoot in the draft. Seems like it's better to grab a couple in the later rounds to sit behind a guy like Cousins. If you get lucky you can discover the next Brady, Wilson, etc. So many later round picks who nobody was talking about who won Super Bowls.

I can't for the life of me figure out why RGIII doesn't slide. Like you said he's just awkward. His mechanics are odd and puts even more pressure on his body.

I think they got very lucky with Cousins to have a back up who can step in and hold his own. I could be wrong he could be a top 10 QB one day but he hasnt shown brilliance yet, just competence and the ability to win with help. That could be enough if they draft other positions well in future. Just look at the cardinals for example, a good record in a difficult division with a middle of the road QB because the team is good.

He needs extra coaching or something, he always puts his body on the line for no reason.

Looks like drafting Cousins as high as they did was a good call. I agree he may never be elite. But he definitely seems serviceable. And maybe he could be top 10 one day if he keeps the starting job. So hard to get good if you don't start every game.

Holy crap - did you see the end of the Browns game? What a finish.

It does seem like a good call. To be honest I wonder where they'd be if they used the RG3 picks to bolster the rest of the roster and held onto Cousins and developed him properly. They wouldn't necessarily be a superbowl contender but if the drafted players did well they could get into the playoffs, especially having a good running back to give them a good ground game.

I missed it, when the Pats game got to garbage time I went and chatted with family for a while. I saw they got a last second field goal to win it.
